First and foremost: If you smoke, quit right now. Smokers skin is far more wrinkled and aged looking than non smokers. To have healthy skin on the outside you need to be healthy on the inside and there’s nothing about cigarettes that is healthy. The sunscreens from the the drugstore are better than the expensive ones from the department store. Just be sure it protects against UVA and UVB. To help any wrinkles or sun damage that you may have now a light AHA lotion will help to exfoliate the skin, remove dead surface layers and brighten up your skin, while the light lotion will help provide our skin with a light barrier against drying and damage. Anti-oxidants are a nice added touch, so are some vitamins. Be sure that whatever you buy is not in a jar but in something that protects it from light and air. The active ingredients will remain active if they aren’t exposed to light or air.
Olay makes several excellent every-day moisturizers brimming with good stuff that are cheaper than the big brands. Their regenerist, total effects and Definity lines all contain high quality sunscreen/moisturizers for all skin types. For an AHA product, again the basic drug store brand “Alpha Hydrox” is as good as AHA lotions and cremes costing twice as much. Neutrogena sells some excellent products that are very reasonably priced and contain good for skin ingredients. With wrinkle cremes, moisturizers and sunscreen, you don’t get a better product if you spend more money, all you get is puffery and a pretty jar.
And remember, wrinkles are as much about heredity as they are skin care; if everyone in your family wrinkles early then there’s not a lot you can do. The second big cause of wrinkles is sun damage, so sunscreen is essential to prevent further wrinkling.
